„Rent a Construction Site“ Project“
Last week, we had the honor of welcoming Minister of Digital Affairs Judith Gerlach, Mayor Sebastian Hartl of the market municipality Luhe-Wildenau, and Deputy District Administrator Albert Nickl to the premises of VALEO IT Services International GmbH. They were accompanied by students from OTH Amberg-Weiden involved in the project.
During this visit, the groundbreaking project „Rent a Bauhof“ was presented, an online platform that allows municipalities to efficiently share construction equipment. The official launch of the project was carried out by Digital Minister Gerlach on April 17, 2023, in Luhe-Wildenau, Upper Palatinate.
Goals and Benefits of the „Rent a Bauhof“ Platform“
The project „Rent a Bauhof“ aims to facilitate the quick and easy rental of construction equipment such as excavators and road construction machinery between municipal maintenance yards in the region. Through this online platform, municipalities can forgo the permanent purchase of expensive machinery, which not only relieves municipal budgets but also makes a positive contribution to environmental protection. The development of the project is supported by the Bavarian State Ministry for Digital Affairs with approximately 225,000 Euros. Upon completion of the development phase, the platform is intended to serve as a best practice example for all municipalities in Bavaria.
Statement by Digital Minister Judith Gerlach
During her visit to Luhe-Wildenau, Gerlach emphasized: „Through modern online solutions, we are making the deployment of municipal construction equipment more efficient and sustainable. This allows us to save costs while also protecting the environment.“
How the platform works
The „Rent a Bauhof“ platform is being developed as a comprehensive solution covering all aspects of the rental process, from machine provision and setting rental conditions to payment processing. The platform is being developed by VALEO IT Services International GmbH together with the municipality of Luhe-Wildenau and will be accessible to all interested municipalities in the region once completed. This digital solution promotes the joint use and better utilization of machinery, thus contributing to more efficient resource management and climate protection.
Component of the „Municipal? Digital!“ competition“
„Rent a Bauhof“ is one of ten projects selected as part of the „Kommunal? Digital!“ competition announced by the Ministry of Digital Affairs. The goal of this competition is to implement innovative digital ideas to promote sustainability in Bavarian municipalities. Each selected project receives funding of up to 500,000 euros and serves as a model for other communities. Accompanying scientific research is part of the program, and participating municipalities contribute a self-funded share of at least 10 percent of the funded amount.
We at VALEO IT Services International GmbH are proud to be part of this pioneering project, which not only promotes efficiency and sustainability in the Oberpfalz region but will also serve as a model for other municipalities in Bavaria.
